QUILLING FOR CHILDREN (ages 7-12) with Gayle Wagner ($20)
Use traditional quilling techniques with paper to form a variety of animals. This three-dimensional craft is a creative activity enjoyed by children at all levels.
QUILLING (ages 12–adult) with Gayle Wagner ($20)
Christmas in July! Learn traditional paper quilling to form hanging ornaments, small angels, snowflakes, and boxes to hold the snowflakes. Quilling, also known as paper filigree, was started in the early 15th century by monks as decor has made a comeback as modern art.
POP-UP BOOKS FOR CHILDREN (ages 7-12) with Pam Collins ($20)
Create art that POPS! Children will create fun pop-up books with simple and creative ways to manipulate paper. Each child will create a book that incorporates three pop-up techniques.
MIXED MEDIA BOOK ARTS (ages 12-adult) with Pam Collins ($20)
Explore the art of book making and mixed media techniques at this exciting workshop. Participants will create a hand-made book that they can use for journaling and collage art.
Classes
TRADITIONAL CURSIVE WRITING IN AMERICA DURING THE 18TH CENTURY with Linda Prentiss, ages 10 and up ($80)
Work with traditional calligraphy pens to form letters from writing found in the U.S. Constitution.
Practice using metal nib dip, feather and reed pens. Learn to write various cursive letter styles.
HISTORY THROUGH DRAWING FOR CHILDREN with Linda Prentiss ($80)
Explore drawing through close observation of still life. Learn pencil techniques for creating realism through contour line and shading. Discuss the history and use of objects that are unique to their time period, such as oil lamps, duck decoys, and antique toys.
HISTORY THROUGH DRAWING FOR TEENS AND ADULTS with Linda Prentiss ($120)
Explore drawing through close observation of objects unique to their time period. Instruction will include demonstration and guided exercises. Examples might include an oil lamp, duck decoys,
pewter mug, and a sextant. Discussions center around the time period and the use of the object.
About the Teachers
Gayle Wagner, an east end artist, has studied Quilling for over 15 years designing modern
paper works using rolled paper. She has won several awards in this medium and enjoys sharing
this unique form of art. She has taught the art of Quilling at the Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild,
in Cutchogue, the Southold Historical Society, the Riverhead Library and the Westhampton
Beach Historical Society.
Linda Prentiss is a painter, printmaker, and calligrapher from Eastern Long Island. She has
exhibited widely, including Washington DC, San Francisco, Italy and Japan. Her work has
garnered several awards. She currently teaches at Suffolk Community College in Riverhead.
Pam Collins is an artist and educator from Eastern Long with over 20 years of Art teaching
experience on the elementary, intermediate, high school, and college level. She is in her 7th
year teaching Art at Southampton High School and she also teaches workshops for children and families at the Parrish Art Museum.
